Musical ~
Xuan Zang – Journey To The West The Musical
Date: Until 09 (Sun) Nov 14
The Musical takes us back to the historical source of
the classic novel, Journey to the West and
re-establishes its fabled protagonist, Tripitaka, in his
true persona, the great and legendary Master Xuan Zang.
The Musical is a bilingual presentation; there are
switches between Chinese and English, supported by
appropriate surtitled translations. Essentially, it is
to reflect the major language changes as Master Xuan
Zang immerses into his life in India. The ancient Indian
languages of Sanskrit and Pali are represented by
English, and the more oriental languages by Mandarin.
With the English lyrics and dialogues by Liau Siau Suan
enhancing the literary breadth of the musical, this
production would appeal to a wider spectrum of theatre
audience.

Show ~ The Paper Cinema’s Odyssey
Date: 06 (Thu) – 09 (Sun) Nov 14
This is an an interpretive theatre performance for the whole
family based on Homer’s epic The Odyssey. The show is brought to
life using hand-drawn paper puppets and ingenious use of lights,
cameras and sound – all manipulated live on stage by the
masterful puppeteers who double up as musicians. Homer’s
Odyssey, a cornerstone of literature, is vividly told with
cinematic projection and cunning tricks that transformed a
suitcase full of cut-out paper puppets into an array of living
characters and striking landscapes. A bespoke silent film is
created before the audience’s eyes, set to a captivating live
score. The Paper Cinema’s Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus –
a king, leader, husband and father – who went missing after the
Trojan War. His faithful wife Penelope waits patiently for his
return, looking after his house and his kingdom, keeping
suitors, monsters and invaders at bay. His ambitious son
Telemachus goes in search for him, but at what peril. At its
heart, this is a story about a family and their trust in one
another, defying all the odds to be reunited once again.
