Kuala Lumpur ~ Airports HOME > VISITORS GUIDE > KL INSIGHTS > TRANSPORT NETWORK > AIRPORTS The thing that air
travellers should take into account is that, there are 2 ‘Main Terminals’
(though some would say 2 Airports), where air passengers normally fly into
and out of Kuala Lumpur. They both have the same designation as ‘KUL’, which
is for KLIA – Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
KLIA And KLIA2 Though both terminals are
located in the Sepang area and are relatively close to each other, you will
not be able to walk from one to the other. To get from this to that
terminal, you can either take the fast train shuttle or take a taxi (which
is about 5 minutes drive). KLIA (Main) Operational since 1998, it is the Main Airport and Terminal used by ‘Malaysia Airlines’ and other international national carriers. Located 50 km south from Kuala Lumpur or about is 45-60 minutes drive from the city.
KLIA2 (Secondary) Recently built and operational since May 2014, this secondary terminal caters as a low cost terminal for budget airlines. It is also located nearby to the main KLIA terminal and is also about 50 km south from Kuala Lumpur or about is 45-60 minutes drive from the city.
Subang Airport Subang Airport is on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. Relatively near, it is about 26km west of Kuala Lumpur, or about 30 minutes drive from the city. The terminal here known as SkyPark Subang, caters for passengers using Firefly, Berjaya Air, Malindo Air and Private aviation companies.
