On the outskirts of KL City, there are a number of interesting
places to visit that is within easy reach. These include the world
renowned Batu Caves, the reputable pewter crafts of Selangor Pewter,
and the Sunway Lagoon amusement
and family theme park.
For Nature lovers there is the
Templer's Park or the cool waters of Kanching Waterfalls. Then there is the
trek into the educational FRIM Rainforest
with its Canopy Walk.
Batu
Caves
Batu Caves is located 13 kilometres (8 mi) north of
Kuala Lumpur. The cave temple built within a limestone hill, is one
of the most popular Hindu shrines outside of India. Dedicated to the
deity Lord Murugan, whose giant statue adorns the site, it has grown
to become an important devotional site and a sacred place for the
Hindu's and the focal point of yearly Hindu festival of Thaipusam in
Malaysia.
Royal
Selangor Pewter
The Royal Selangor is world renowned for its pewter
craftsmanship and quality and its factory offers a tour of the
pewter crafting process and rare insights into its intricate
craftsmanship and offers a workshop where participants are taught to
create their own pewter dish your name stamped on it. Its visitors
shop has an incredible choice of small to large items and even
jewellery; perfect gifts for loved ones at home.
Zoo Negara / National Zoo
Set amidst thick foliage, about 13 km away from the
city, has a total of over 5000 animal from over 450 species of
birds, reptiles, mammals, fish and amphibians from all over the
world. The latest arrival are the giant pandas from China.
Sunway Lagoon
Sunway Lagoon is part of a Integrated Resort which
includes a 5 star hotel and a popular shopping mall. It consists of
Waterpark, Amusement Park, Screampark, Wildlifepark and the Extreme
Park. In its centre, it has 3 major themed lands: Wild Wild West,
World of Adventure and Waters of Africa. Each boasting fantastic
rides and attractions, its a great place for the kids and adults
alike.
FRIM
Rainforest
Forest Research Institute
Malaysia or FRIM is one of the nearest nature destinations for
visitors who wish to see and experience the wonders of a tropical
forest without the rigors of travelling to the national parks. It
offers all walks of life a back-to-nature experience whilst enjoying
the flora, fauna. There are jungle trails, canopy walkway,
waterfalls, a herbarium, a library and a museum housing different
species of wood, their uses and products. Biking, hiking, walking
and trekking the jungle habitat are favourite activities and the
trails here are packed with outdoor enthusiasts.
Templer's Park
Templer's Park is a forest reserve located in a small
valley, 2 km long, situated about 22 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur.
Consisting of lowland forests and a five-kilometre limestone ridge
with abundant monkeys and birdlife, there are waterfalls, jungle
trails and a natural pool with a 740-metre hill, the park attracts
nature lovers, bird watchers, jungle trekkers, photographers and
picnickers.
Kanching Waterfalls
Kanching Rainforest Waterfall, also known as Kanching
Recreational Forest, is a forest reserve just outside the city that
offers good trails and an easy access to tropical waterfalls
surrounded by beautiful hillside terrain. A great outdoor
introduction to the rainforest, one can hike the trails, take in the
nature, choose a picnic spot and jump into a refreshing waterfall
pool. The Kanching Forest Reserve area is a haven for various
species of birds and monkeys. The Kanching Waterfalls present a
dramatic backdrop to the jungle setting, an invigorating getaway
amidst nature.
