Kuala Lumpur Shopping ~ Towards Petaling Jaya
Kuala Lumpur Insights

HOME > VISITORS GUIDE > KL INSIGHTS > KL SHOPPING > TOWARDS PETALING JAYA

•Mid Valley Megamall
•The Curve
•One Utama

The other notable area where shoppers can head is towards the outskirts of the city. This would be towards Petaling Jaya, which is not actually far off.
The Mid Valley Megamall which is about 20 mins drive away from the city is a very popular shopping mall among locals.

Further out, there is the Curve, probably the single most popular mall among expats that live in Kuala Lumpur. And not far from here is 1 Utama, also known as One Utama, One U or 'OU'. It has become one of the most popular shopping mall and notably one of the largest with around 650 shops.

Mid Valley

Mid Valley Megamall is a very popular shopping mall is located just outside the city centre.

Mid Valley though mainly visited by locals has become increasingly popular among tourists too.

Both Mid Valley Megamall and neighbouring luxurious shopping mall the Gardens is part of what is known as Mid Valley City. It encompasses office blocks, a convention centre, residential blocks and a few hotels; including the 5 star The Gardens Hotel and the 4 star Boulevard Hotel.

Mid Valley has over 430 shops including a large F.O.S. (Factory Outlet Store) with a good range of low-priced branded clothing. The mall contains two huge department stores; one in every corner: Jusco and Metrojaya. Then there is a massive Carrefour supermarket at the lower ground floor and next to it an equally huge Harvey Norman store. The mall caters to all shoppers; you have luxury stores, but also many ordinary shops.

It can be a bit overwhelming for first time visitors because of the sheer size. At the upper floor there is a big Golden Screen Cinemas with 18 screens and at the same level there is also a 38 lane bowling alley, an exhibition centre, Megakidz indoor playground and many specialty stores including some toy stores, comic stores & arcades.

The Curve
The Curve is probably the single most popular mall among expats as it is located among one of the biggest expat enclaves of the city; Mont Kiara.

Spread out over 3 floors, with over 250 stores, The Curve is located outside of the city center; within the Damansara enclave of Petaling Jaya.

Anchor tenant at The Curve is Metrojaya which has taken up 2 floors, and right outside The Curve there is the huge Tesco, one of the biggest supermarkets in the country.

At the other side of the complex you will find 'The Street'. The Street offers more than 30 food outlets from the Swiss chain Marche to the Japanese restaurant Sakae. Every night people from the area come together to have dinner or to enjoy a drink or two.

Past the restaurants you will find e@Curve, with its abundance of trendy stores, Cineplex, bowling alley, game arcade and a weekend indoor bazaar.

Right opposite of The Curve you can find the huge IKANO Power Centre which is connected to The Curve by a sky bridge from the 2nd floor. The Ikano Power Centre (IPC) offers the biggest (non-fashion) brands.

Here also you find IKEA, Macy's, Aussini, a huge Harvey Norman, Ace Hardware, All IT Hypermarket, Pet Safari (the biggest pet store in KL) as well as many other big stores such as Cold Storage at the lower ground floor.

One Utama
Located in the district of Bandar Utama, a suburb of the city of Petaling Jaya is 1 Utama, also known as One Utama, One U or 'OU'.

Notably one of the largest shopping mall in Malaysia, it is acclaimed to be the fourth largest in the world and is said to receive daily about 60,000 to 90,000 visitors, and more than 120,000 on weekends.

This is also another popular shopping mall with around 650 shops which includes brands like H2O+, A&W, A/X By Armani Exchange, ABOVE, Acca Kappa, Adidas,Body Glove, Camel Active, Canon, Chanel, CK, Clarins, Clinique, Coach, Cotton, Crocs, DKNY, Esprit, GAP, Guess, and many more.

Anchor Tenants here, are the department stores Aeon (the forerunner of Jaya Jusco) and Giant. In addition, you will find hundreds of shops, restaurants such as Bar BQ Plaza, Sushi Zanmai, Chilis, Seoul Garden, Italiannies Pasta Pizza & Vino and many others.

Tourists or business travellers can stay overnight in the nearby One World Hotel, a luxurious 5 star hotel.

One Utama also houses Asia’s biggest indoor rock-climbing gym, a baseball softball centre, a scuba diving centre, a 13-screen cinema and a lush tropical Rainforest inside the mail and its Secret Garden, South East Asia's largest rooftop garden, allowing diners to savour their meals amongst lush greenery.
