Kuala Lumpur Shopping ~ Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman
Kuala Lumpur Insights

HOME > VISITORS GUIDE > KL INSIGHTS > KL SHOPPING > JLN TUANKU ABDUL RAHMAN

•Bazar
•Sogo
•Pertama Complex

The shops here offer a wide range of fabrics and textiles, imported leather goods, bags and luggage, carpets, sports goods and winter clothing.

Other established names offer collections of silver and crystal ware. The trendy mall Sogo and the old school Pertama Complex are also located along this stretch.

Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, sometimes referred to as Jalan TAR, was the 'grande dame' of KL shopping in the days before modern shopping complexes took the KL city by storm.

The street is flanked by pre-war buildings whose distinctive facades have been preserved and readapted to accommodate modern retailing businesses.

Here, you can walk through the archways of shops for an immersion into a shopping and cultural experience that goes back several decades.

Also along this street is the Coliseum Cafι, a veritable institution on Kuala Lumpur’s food scene famed for its legendary Hainanese chicken chops was once a favourite hangout of the British colonials in its heyday.

Today, still maintaining its old charm, it is a place locals come to for sizzling steaks and beers.

Bazar

This was called Little India at one time, but this is now called the Bazar as most of the traders here are Indian Moslem and Malay. (Little India is now in the Brickfields area). This place here is an area at the older section of the city on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Masjid India.

Along this street you will discover an interesting mixture of a-la Arab Street, where Indian Moslem and Malay traders merchandise their crafts, Moslem / Malay clothing's, Songket, batik sarong, songkok, fabrics, religious books, traditional medicines and herbs, saris, spices, bangles, etc.

Sogo Shopping Mall
Sogo has 700,000 square feet of one-stop retail space spread over 10 floors of merchandise, where prices are usually cheaper than what the other department stores.

You will be able to find the most complete selection of affordable exclusive fashion labels and top quality branded products, women’s wear, cosmetics and fragrances, menswear, children attire, home furnishings and even fine Bone China and crystals.

There are also international restaurants and the Saji Food Court on the 6th Floor.

Pertama Complex
The Pertama Complex has the distinction of being one of the first shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur. After the arrival of many new malls in the city, most shops departed from the Pertama Complex.

There are still plenty of items here categorized in the mid to low range price range and the complex contains retail outlets selling shoes, leather goods, electronic gadgets, watches, sports gears and photographic equipment.
However its main focus is on sports goods. Known mostly by locals, here you'll find dozens of sport shops next to each other.
