Nightlife in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur Guide

Kuala Lumpur, lights up with excitement at night as crowds of youngsters, revellers and yuppies frequent clubs, bars and pubs on the streets. The hive of activity usually begins from 10 pm onwards though some nightspots open earlier. From fashionable lounges to sprawling discos to pubs perfect for lounging.

Though there are some that open for lunch, most clubs won't open until about 5pm and close by 1 or 2am. Nearly all have a happy hour, usually between 5 - 9pm, when drink discounts apply on draft beers and "house-pour" (lower shelf) mixed drinks. After that, you can expect to pay about RM11 to RM20 for a mug of beer, depending on what and where you order. In every club here in Kuala Lumpur, they have a special night for ladies, known as 'ladies night', where all ladies are served free drinks (normally house drinks). Beers are served as per mug or per jug (pitcher) though a pint is also available at certain places. Certain places especially those outlets that provide live bands and performances, after happy hours, there is usually a cover charge to be paid on entry (normally inclusive of 1 drink).
The Authorities enforce a 3 am closure ruling for nightspots in Kuala Lumpur city areas, while clubs and pubs in urban areas in the vicinity of residential estates have to close at 1 am. Occasionally, the police do conduct raids on random places to check for illicit drugs, prostitution and other vices.
The Golden Triangle Area
For newcomers to the city, the main vibrant hotspots that are within easy reach would be the Golden Triangle Area -

KL Nightlife I - Hard Rock Cafe, Nouvo, Beach Club & Rum Jungle
The centre of nightlife, if you want to browse, begins at the corner of Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Pinang (Jalan is the Malay word for street). Here you'll find bars of all kinds of clubs, pubs and bistros. Among those noted are -

Hard Rock Cafe
This well-known place needs no introduction, with great live-band performances and the familiar food / menu, where you can easily mingle with lively and cool people

Nouvo
Many International DJ's coming over to perform, beautiful people abound in this club. Come here if you want to dance the night away with the young, hip KL set. Make sure you dress to impress.

Beach Club
Known as the 'in-club in KL', the Beach Club is constantly packed with a mixture of all ethnic and nationalities, locals, tourist, up & coming yuppies, teen wanabees, expats and street-walkers.

Thai Club
Though famed for being crowded at any given night of the week, This is not the sort of venue where there's much concern for the latest fashions or dance music mutations. instead the atmospheres is more easy going with the mainly American tunes and Thai pop together with Chinese and local music.

Rum Jungle
Elaborately decorated with trees and plants, wood furnishings - after a few drinks you could easily think you were in a real rainforest. The live band with the resident DJ usually keeps the place rocking to world music such as reggae, Latin, Spanish and even ethnic and tribal percussion

KL Nightlife II - Zouk, BBC, Finnegans and Little Havana
The other spots, though within the Golden Triangle area, are spread out. Each different in concept and allows you to choose according to your preferences.
These include - Zouk, BBC, Finnegans and Little Havana.

Zouk

The venue for serious clubbers, it is the biggest dance club in town. With four main sections, music here is varied depending on where you are - Playing house, progressive and trance tunes and old school R & B. Internationally renowned DJs hit the decks on a regular basis

BBC - Borneo Baruk Club
Replicates a Borneo longhouse with with modern decor fused with ethnic motifs. The crowd here is a mix of locals including those from Sabah and Sarawak, as well as foreigners. The music by DJ and live band performances here is a mix of retro, R&B, raggae as well as some old school and new tunes.

Finnegan's
A traditional Irish pub with seven beers on tap, including Guinness and an extensive food menu, it a popular spot in the area with expatriates and families. A place you can chill out while witnessing scenes of bustling activity in colorful Bukit Bintang.

Little Havana
Open atmosphere with seating both indoor and outdoor ~ not too noisy with a great cocktail and wine list.
If you're into Latin dancing, check out the Friday nites latin dance parties. Totally amazing vibes there.
