Nightlife in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur Guide
Kuala Lumpur, lights
up with excitement at night as crowds of youngsters, revellers and yuppies
frequent clubs, bars and pubs on the streets. The hive of activity usually
begins from 10 pm onwards though some nightspots open earlier. From fashionable
lounges to sprawling discos to pubs perfect for lounging.
Though
there are some that open for lunch, most clubs won't open until about 5pm and
close by 1 or 2am. Nearly all have a happy hour, usually between 5 - 9pm, when
drink discounts apply on draft beers and "house-pour" (lower shelf) mixed
drinks. After that, you can expect to pay about RM11 to RM20 for a mug of beer,
depending on what and where you order. In every club here in Kuala Lumpur, they
have a special night for ladies, known as 'ladies night', where all ladies are
served free drinks (normally house drinks). Beers are served as per mug or per
jug (pitcher) though a pint is also available at certain places. Certain places
especially those outlets that provide live bands and performances, after happy
hours, there is usually a cover charge to be paid on entry (normally inclusive
of 1 drink).
The Authorities enforce a 3 am closure ruling for nightspots in Kuala Lumpur
city areas, while clubs and pubs in urban areas in the vicinity of residential
estates have to close at 1 am. Occasionally, the police do conduct raids on
random places to check for illicit drugs, prostitution and other vices.
